Agfest 6th & 7th May 2010

Leonie Kirkhope was asked to attend Agfest & be a part of an Arabian costume display, her answer was yes 'if Sherry will let me take Tamaan'.

So with only three weeks’ notice I decided to look for a costume, whilst browsing the web looking for a pattern to make one I found exactly the costume I had in mind so after some deliberation it was decided to put our pending decking repair job on hold and buy a costume for Tamaan & Leonie to strut their stuff in.  Very happy with it and extremely pleased with Tamaan making his first mega public appearance with Leonie and taking everything in his usual un-phased stride.  The Arabian costume display was awesome and a credit to everyone that participated.

Foaling News

Spring 2010 onwards is going to be extremely exciting for VSA and various friends who entrusted their precious mares to us which were bred to Tamaan.  We excitedly await the safe arrival of all these foals.

2010  SHOW  SEASON  FINALE

Our last show for the season was the Tas ARABs Annual “A” class show held at Westbury on the 17th January 2010.
After a great deal of deliberation we decided to enter Tamaan for this show, and following the huge success at the three previous shows with each of our gorgeous mares we thought we should at least give Tamaan one outing.
Leonie Kirkhope had not ridden Tamaan since December 2008 but she insisted that with only two weeks preparation prior to the show she was certain he would be ready to compete at his first show under saddle.
Saturday 17th January was a beautiful day and despite having attended numerous shows I was extremely nervous.
Bronc showed Tamaan in the led section judged by Glenys Lilley from NSW he was awarded Supreme Champion Led Purebred Exhibit much to our delight.

Next came the ridden section being judged by Allan Preston from NSW, one of Australias highest credentialed judges, the tension built I was so nervous & excited I became quite vocal much to everyone’s amusement when Tamaan & Leonie placed 1st in the Open Stallion class and then the ULTIMATE was Tamaan being awarded Supreme Purebred Ridden Arabian it was a dream come true and a day never to be forgotten, our sincere thanks go to Leonie she had the foresight & belief in Tamaan to know that they could achieve this.  Never in our wildest dreams did we think this was possible at his first show under saddle.  Tamaan is an amazing Arabian stallion, we are so fortunate to have bred him and have him in our lives.

Endurance

Belated congratulations go to Denise Williams & Valley Springs Summer Haze on 1st place in the Heavy Weight Division of the 2008 Tasmanian Endurance Championships and their many other successful endurance accomplishments.  Wishing them both all the best for the future they certainly make a great team.

Foals for 2009

Sunny has had a lovely tall chestnut colt, unfortunately Sunny just isn’t prepared to pass on the dilute gene for a palomino foal, regardless Irene is impressed with her latest edition.

VS Lil

After persisting for three years despite the vets telling us to give up Clair Tubb’s arab x welsh pony mare Ulinga aka Fanny gave birth to her bundle of joy a filly known as “Lil” short for Little One.  Everyone is so delighted, Fanny will be 21yo next January and she is the doting proud mother.

Photos taken 16th November 2009

Sweet Rebecca

Margie & Mathrew Johnson of Westbury are extremely delighted with their chestnut anglo filly out of Sweet Rebecca and I must admit I am very impressed with the anglo foals sired by Tamaan to date.

Other News

Annie & VS Tamaanah having some fun.

Annie and Tamaanah are moving forward in leaps and bounds despite plenty of setbacks! hopefully in the next year we will see them out and about not only in halter but under saddle if they keep up the good work!

Show News

Valley Springs Heaven Sent had her first outing in 7 years on Sunday 4th October to the Burnie Show judged by Mieke Bigg (Queensland).  Heaven is such a drama queen but once she was given the once over and presented for her classes she showed beautifully for Bronc.
Heaven won classic head, placed second in classic trot, won the mare class and was awarded Supreme Champion Purebred much to our delight.

New Arrival

VSA have a new edition to the family with the acquisition of a colourful non Arab mare known as Maggie, she has the sweetest disposition and was previously a tourist trail riding horse at Cradle Mountain, Maggie was bred to Tamaan late last season and is due to hopefully give us a coloured foal on about the 3rd February 2010.

The youngsters.............

During winter a couple of Tamaan’s progeny started some under saddle education and are proving to be excellent riding horses for the whole family to enjoy

VS Tamaanah & Annie Jaehne aboard showing us just how laid back she is

Bronc & I have broken in, From Heaven with Love  aka “Missy”  and I am delighted to say she is a fantastic riding horse and I could not be more happy with her, she has an excellent walking stride,  her trot is huge she sure does cover the country and her canter is like sitting in a rocking chair just so smooth she is the most pleasurable youngster I have ever ridden.

Shock horror yes it is Bronc riding Ezar

Missy does care whether she is leading the way or following

                  What a glorious view!

Compliments......

I recently received one of the best compliments from a vet that visited us and a non Arab lover at that, he had previously visited Doug Stevens at Evandale to geld “Simba” an Anglo foal by Tamaan and he told me that he was very impressed with him,  he is so well put together, and has such great attitude and he is just so sensible.   I replied all Tamaan’s foals are like that and he said  well if that is the case you have a very good stallion.   Needless to say I was pretty chuffed by his comments.

Foals Due.....

Tamaan has four foals due 2009/10 we are really looking forward to them all arriving safely, the first is Fanny an extremely pretty Welsh/Arab cross pony she is almost 20yo and it has taken us three years to get her in foal despite the vets telling us to forget it she was past it, her eagerly awaited foal is due in September.

In October Sunny is due, just hoping she has a palomino for Irene’s sake this time round.  To Irene there is only one good colour and that is palomino, mind you she is very pleased with her previous liver chestnut filly, Flame also by Tamaan and despite being harassed by numerous people to sell Flame she is still with Irene, mind you if Sunny has a palomino foal that could change.

Sweet Rebecca (TB) is due in November followed last but not least Maggie due in February next year.

Tamaan has a busy breeding season for 2009 approaching which we are certain he will be extremely delighted about.  Four people, who if not previously are now all good friends of ours who have previously bred their mares to Tamaan are obviously pleased with Tamaan as a sire as they are bringing mares back to him again this season which we think is absolutely fantastic.

This coming summer I am planning on getting out and about and visiting many of Tamaan’s off spring to get some much needed updated photos of them all grown up.

Shows

After four years absence Tamaan has returned to the show ring and was awarded “Supreme Purebred Arabian Exhibit” at the Monds & Affleck Allbreeds Championships, judged by Alan Preston (NSW) who recently judged in Las Vegas & Brazil.  Tamaan was a pleasure to show and won many admirers for his beauty and impeccable behaviour on the day.
On his second outing on the 28th November at the Tas ARABs “A” Class show Tamaan was awarded “Champion Purebred Stallion” judged by Meredith Scullin (Vic).

*******VS Open day 2nd of December 2007 ******

On the 2nd December 2007 friends & visitors were made welcome to the first Open Day to be held since the foundation of Valley Springs Arabians fifteen years ago. It was a glorious sunny day and everyone sat back & relaxed and enjoyed the afternoon, firstly seeing the stud’s resident stallion VS Tamaan both in hand and again returning under saddle ridden by Leonie Kirkhope. Earlier that week Leonie and Tamaan became reacquainted for the first time in 19 months in between Tamaan’s busy mare serving schedule and put on a splendid display showing how tractable & well mannered this young stallion truly is. Next the beautiful mares of Valley Springs then made their appearance and were released at liberty showing their true presence & awesome movement, followed by some of Tamaan’s progeny ranging from 3 months to 3 years old. Much to Sherry & Bronc’s delight the presentation went off without a hitch and was thoroughly enjoyed by all those present.

Sincere thanks go to all the friends & family who without their help this day would not have been possible.
